Following her visit to the Spencer Court flooding site on 15 June 2012, Catherine McKinnell MP commented
“Having now visited the site this morning, my heartfelt concerns are with the residents affected by this dreadful situation. I would also like to commend the tremendous amount of work undertaken by various organisations to date to try and resolve the current crisis. Given the forecast for this weekend, it is essential that this situation is contained.
It is vital that residents are kept up to date with developments and that all the agencies involved are as proactive as possible in ensuring that appropriate support is in place to meet the needs of residents. I am pleased to see the proactive approach taken by Newcastle City Council in responding to this situation and reassured that they are willing to continue to work with Northumberland Estates alongside other agencies to resolve this matter.
I understand that this is obviously an extremely difficult and distressing situation for residents and I would encourage anyone to contact me if I can be of any assistance. You can contact my office on 0191 229 0352 or email catherine.mckinnell.mp@parliament.uk“
