A number of people, and local organisations, have contacted me over recent weeks and months about the various changes by Newcastle City Council to traffic management at what was the Regent Centre/ASDA roundabout in Gosforth.

I am acutely aware that a large number of constituents have had serious concerns about this issue, both those who live in the immediate area and those who are attempting to pass through it.  I have personally, and regularly, experienced the same problems and I therefore fully appreciate why people are very unhappy at this situation.

That is why I have repeatedly raised my concerns with Newcastle City Council’s Chief Executive and officers at all levels – both in writing and in several meetings – about the impact these changes have had. I have done so because, as the local Member of Parliament – and not a local Councillor, I have had no role in the design or implementation of this Newcastle City Council scheme. However, I do clearly do have a role in representing the views of my constituents and urging the local authority to act upon them, which I have done.

In light of this, I wrote again recently to the Council’s Chief Executive – and you can read the detailed response I have received by clicking on the images below.
