Catherine McKinnell, MP for Newcastle North, has urged local residents to join her in showing their support for women affected by breast cancer by taking part in the UK’s biggest, brightest and pinkest fundraiser – wear it pink – on 21st October.

Next month’s event marks the 15th year of wear it pink, with Catherine backing Breast Cancer Now in urging local people to add a flash of pink to their outfit for the day, and support the charity’s life-saving breast cancer research.

catherine-mckinnell-mp-wear-it-pink-2016Catherine joined fellow MPs in ‘wearing it pink’ in Westminster last week, to encourage people across the country to get involved and help Breast Cancer Now towards realising their ambition that, by 2050, everyone who develops the disease will live.

Wear it pink raises almost £2million each year for world-class research into breast cancer, and anyone can take part in the event – whether at work, home or school.

Catherine said:

‘Some 50,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer every year across the country – with around 11,500 women, and 80 men, very sadly losing their lives as a result of this disease.

‘We must put a stop to this, and Breast Cancer Now’s cutting-edge research means that the charity is tackling the disease from all angles – but this work requires financial support.

‘So, whilst breast cancer remains deadly serious, wear it pink is a simple but effective way for everyone to show their support for those affected, and raise vital funds to help make this disease one that everyone can survive.’
