Catherine McKinnell MP has given her backing to the work of the Geordie Breakfast Club, following a recent visit to the veterans’ group which meets every weekend at Kingston Park’s Toby Carvery.

The Geordie Breakfast Club was established to provide friendship, networking opportunities and support for veterans to adjust to civilian life – dealing with issues such as Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), isolation, housing problems, and employment and re-training needs.

Catherine was invited to meet with club members by its founder, Andy Wilson, to hear more about the services they provide to local veterans of any age, and their families.

Catherine said:

‘It was such a privilege to meet up with Andy and his colleagues, and hear more about the vital work they do in supporting veterans.

‘They are a great bunch of comrades, who clearly enjoy the social side of the Geordie Breakfast Club – but they’re also willing to go the extra mile to help those in need of any support.

‘I would strongly urge any local veterans – or those shortly due to leave the Armed Forces – to get in touch with the club to find out what’s on offer.’

Andy Wilson, Geordie Breakfast Club founder and ex-Royal Engineers, said:

‘It’s thanks to our loyal members that we can help veterans in need. If there’s anyone out there that might need our support, they shouldn’t hesitate to give us a call – or just turn up – as we will all be there for them.’

The Geordie Breakfast Club is one of over 120 breakfast clubs around the world, and is open to anyone who has served in any branch of the Armed Forces.  It meets from 9.30am on one Sunday and three Saturdays a month, and those wanting to find out more should contact Andy Wilson on 07756 685 149.
