Along with many of my colleagues first elected to Parliament back in 2010, I was officially ‘sworn in’ as a returning Member yesterday evening – the process every MP must go through before they can ‘take their seat’, vote or speak in debates.

This short, but very solemn, procedure reiterated the immense privilege of being re-elected to represent Newcastle North in Parliament – and the important work ahead in the next five years.
