Newcastle North MP, Catherine McKinnell, joined staff at the ASDA supermarket in Westerhope yesterday (16th November) to support their fundraising activities for Children in Need 2011.

ASDA staff wore pyjamas for the day to raise funds, whilst the store also organised tombolas, a raffle, and children’s drawing and cake-decorating competitions.

Catherine, who is the Shadow Minister for Children and Young Families, said:

“It was great fun to join in with the Children in Need activities in Westerhope for what is such an important cause.

“BBC Children in Need supports disadvantaged children and young people, right here in the North East, but also across the country.

“It’s so important that every child in the UK has a childhood which is safe, happy and secure, and allows them to reach their full potential. That’s what Children in Need is all about, and I am pleased to have been able to support their vital work this year.”
