Newcastle North MP Catherine McKinnell today visited the D2 Youth Zone in Newbiggin Hall to chat about their work in supporting young people in the community.

D2 Youth Zone yesterday celebrated 25 years of working with young people aged between 11 and 25 years old in Newbiggin Hall with a party for project users and local residents.

The project supports hundreds of young people every year and provides activities to promote participation, team building and to build confidence. In additional D2 Youth Zone supports young people to return to education or gain training and employment.

Following the visit Catherine commented ‘D2 Youth Zone is a vital community resource for residents in Newbiggin Hall, providing a friendly and encouraging environment for young people in the local area.

‘It was great to hear from the fantastic and dedicated team working at D2 Youth Zone about their work to support young people and the range of services that they provide to the community.

‘We discussed the importance of good quality youth work, and the invaluable work they do to support young people back into or to stay in education, and into apprenticeships & employment.

‘Community projects are so important in communities across Newcastle North and I look forward to supporting D2 Youth Zone in the years ahead.’
