Catherine signed the Holocaust Educational Trust’s Book of Commitment and pledged her continued commitment to protect our freedoms as we approach Holocaust Memorial Day. Catherine, who also Co-Chairs the All Party Parliamentary Group against Antisemitism, honoured those who were murdered during the Holocaust and paid tribute to the extraordinary Holocaust survivors who work tirelessly to educate young people today.

Holocaust Memorial Day marks the liberation of the former Nazi concentration and death camp, Auschwitz-Birkenau, in 1945, and falls on the 27th January each year.

The day is one of remembrance for the millions murdered during the Holocaust and to pay tribute to all of those persecuted by the Nazis, and those affected by genocide since. The theme for this year’s commemoration is ‘Fragility of Freedom’.

The Holocaust Educational Trust reminds us that the mass murder of European Jews does not only refer to the devastating loss of millions of lives, but also the disappearance of cultures, communities, languages and traditions.

Catherine commented: “Holocaust Memorial Day is an important opportunity for us to reflect on the darkest time in European history.

“We must remember the six million Jewish men, women and children who were murdered in the Holocaust, and speak out against all forms of antisemitism. It is essential that we learn from the mistakes of the past, and pledge to ensure it will happen again.”
