From a rare Saturday sitting to save British Steel to spending time in Newcastle North with residents, charities and businesses, it has been a busy week! For regular updates, follow me on social media here.
Saving British Steel
On Saturday, MPs returned to Parliament to pass an emergency law to save British Steel in Scunthorpe. The new law provides the government with the power to direct steel companies in England, which will protect the Scunthorpe site by maintaining the operation of the blast furnaces. This secures the future of our steel industry, protects the surrounding communities and enables the Government to deliver on the Plan for Change.
Joining in with Headway-Tyneside
Headway is a brilliant local charity that works with brain injury survivors and their families. I joined their Tyneside branch for an engaging activity session in High Gosforth Park and had the chance to hear the inspiring stories of those who have been supported by the charity.
Helping local people with their problems
I held my regular constituency surgery in Jesmond, where people across Newcastle North can come to speak to me with any issues that I can assist them with – such as immigration, housing and the NHS. I hold surgeries across the constituency and you can contact my team for any assistance.
St George’s Church
I enjoyed a tour of St George’s Church in Jesmond, as well as discussing their new community hub project which will provide support for people throughout the local area. You can find more information here.
Meeting Newcastle City Council
I met with the leadership at Newcastle City Council to raise the concerns of the people that I represent in Newcastle North – including many in Fawdon and West Gosforth who had fed back their views in my recent survey.
Visiting Newmedica
I ended the week with a visit to Newmedica’s clinic in Longbenton to discuss their work providing healthcare for those with eye diseases in the local area, as well as watching some eye surgery take place!
