Since proposals for an opencast mine at Dewley Hill were first proposed by Banks Group, Catherine has been contacted by many local residents to express their concerns.

Catherine made representations on behalf of residents in relation to the initial planning application in April 2019 and has met with the Defend Dewley Hill campaign group. See more here.

Last year Newcastle City Council suspended the planning determination on the proposals, requesting the developer answer questions on noise nuisance, the loss of animal habitats, harm to the green belt, increased air pollution on the A1, and the effect of blast waves on aircraft departing and landing at Newcastle International Airport.

Banks have now amended their application and further public consultation is open until the end of July.

See below Catherine’s latest submission on behalf of residents.
