Regional airports like Newcastle Airport are important drivers of local economies like ours in the North East.

Aviation is facing unprecedented challenges and thousands of jobs are at risk but despite many of us making numerous requests to Government, in writing and in the House of Commons, a sector deal to help the industry recover is nowhere to be seen.

I have urged the Government again to step up and provide support, including with measures like relief on business rates which are a huge fixed cost for airports like ours in Newcastle. This is vital not just to protect jobs now but to support the industry to become greener.
