Catherine has spoken out against the Government’s proposals to slash funding for the BBC, warning that the changes risk the BBC as we know it.

Speaking in response to the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport’s statement on BBC Funding in the House of Commons, Catherine warned that “many of my constituents are worried that the BBC’s unique range of programming that brings together the UK’s nations, regions and diverse communities is not safe in this Government’s hands”.

Catherine further highlighted that it appeared that the Government were “seeking to undermine and sacrifice this great national institution in order to save the Prime Minister’s political skin”.

Following her comments, Catherine added:

“The Government aren’t fooling anyone here. The Secretary of State has offered no plan for future BBC funding despite it being clear that continued cuts will damage a respected institution domestically and around the world. It is nothing more than a shameless attempt to distract from the chaos and partying in Downing Street”.
