Labour Government’s first steps for change

The first King’s Speech of the Labour government has set forward an ambitious plan for delivering the change that Britain needs.

The programme sees measures to implement Labour’s six steps including to deliver higher growth, cheaper energy bills, tackle crime and anti-social behaviour, get the NHS back on its feet, recruit 6,500 new teachers and secure Britain’s borders.

This follows action already taken by the new Labour government to launch the national wealth fund, scrap the ban on onshore wind, tackle the crisis in the water sector and meet with metro mayors to drive growth in local communities, such as here in the North East.

Catherine commented “The election, both here in Newcastle North and across the country, delivered a Labour government with a mandate for change. This King’s Speech has set out ambitious plans to deliver that change, in the service of working people.

“Labour is getting to work dealing with the mess that the previous government left in the economy, in our public services and  our environment and I look forward to working on delivering for people as a Minister in the Department for Education”.
