Catherine McKinnell, MP for Newcastle North, ‘cut the ribbon’ on today at the official re-opening of Great North Road Post Office.

The former Grange Park Post Office relocated to Motor Fuel Group-Londis, North Road Service Station on the Great North Road in Gosforth last month and was renamed Great North Road Post Office. The new location is 75 metres from its former location at 67 Great North Road.

Catherine said:

‘I am pleased to be officially opening the Great North Road Post Office in this bright modern environment in the heart of the community. I know how important local Post Offices are to my constituents – and it’s great that this one has moved just up the road, and will be open seven days a week.’

Great North Road Post Office is a new-style local branch where Post Office services are available from an open-plan till at the shop counter throughout the store’s opening hours.

The branch is open seven days a week from 6am – 10pm.  This offers 112 hours of Post Office service every week. This is significantly longer hours than the previous branch opening hours.

Tony Walker, Trading Director for Motor Fuel Group, said:

‘As a community retailer, we are delighted to be welcoming Post Office customers to our store. Adding Post Office services is of great benefit to the local community.’

Richard Hall, Post Office Public Affairs Manager, said:

‘We are making it easier for customers to get their cash, send and collect their mail and do their banking because we know how important these services are to local residents. We are confident that this vibrant new-style Post Office will meet customer needs. This modernisation is part of a major investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office.’
