Catherine has called for the Government to provide specific and targeted support for Newcastle’s hospitality and night-time economy.
Speaking in the House of Commons, Catherine highlighted that hospitality and the night-time economy were “absolutely core to our city’s appeal” but that the sector has “accrued massive debt” and “during this period, they are struggling with a continued uncertainty that Omicron is bringing”.
Catherine concluded by asking the Minister to “look at specific targeted support for this sector for those areas that really need it”.
Following her question, Catherine commented “Newcastle has a world class hospitality and night-time sector; however, the pandemic has brought very serious challenges for businesses that have accrued debt over the last two years and are seeing further significant impact as a result of the Omicron uncertainty, staff absence and isolation, combined with a quieter Christmas period.
“We need a thriving hospitality sector and night-time economy as we recover and those businesses, which have been hit harder than most by restrictions, need support now and into the future. The Government must bring forward specific targeted support for the sector in Newcastle”.
