Catherine McKinnell recently visited Westerhope based Hart Door Systems – a leading designer and manufacturer in commercial and industrial doors.

Hart Door Systems designs and manufactures doors for clients in the North East, nationally and across the world. Some of their products have been used in major international projects, including the 2012 London Olympic games.

During the visit, Catherine discussed the challenges and opportunities for businesses in the region, such as apprenticeships, infrastructure investment, skills and training, exports and Brexit. The Newcastle North MP also had a tour of the factory and spoke with employees, including current and former apprentices.

Catherine commented “It was great to visit Hart Door Systems in Westerhope today. The firm supports good skilled local jobs, and it was fantastic to catch up on their work and hear about how some of their designs and products have been used around the world.

“I was really pleased to also get the opportunity to meet with one of their apprentices to hear about their training.

“Visiting local businesses is vital for really understanding the issues that they face, as well as potential opportunities for the future, so that we can work together to ensure the best possible conditions in which to thrive.”
