Climate WeekNewcastle North MP, Catherine McKinnell, has given her backing to the Climate Week Declaration, ahead of Climate Week which take places this year from 4th-10th March.

The Declaration calls on Government to do more to invest in the green economy, and to tackle climate change through the Energy Bill currently being considered in Parliament. Climate Week will see events taking place across the country, with over 2,700 different activities registered so far.

Catherine said:

“I strongly believe that Britain must do all it can to create a secure, prosperous and sustainable future by helping to prevent climate change.

“That’s why I’ve given my backing to the Climate Week Declaration which calls on the Government to take further steps to encourage investment in the green economy. This is particularly important for regions like the North East, where we have so much potential for growth in new, green industries.

“I’m also calling on Ministers to include decarbonisation targets in the Energy Bill, which would reduce emissions in the UK’s power sector.”
