Catherine backs the Marie Curie Cancer Care Great Daffodil Appeal 2011

Catherine McKinnell, MP for Newcastle North, is urging her constituents to back the Marie Curie Cancer Care Great Daffodil Appeal 2011. Every March, the charity asks people to show their support for the Appeal by buying and wearing a daffodil pin. Catherine wants those people who have not already shown their support for the campaign to use the last two weeks of March to do so.

“Marie Curie Cancer Care provides an invaluable service, with over 2,000 nurses working in the UK to provide important support to terminally ill patients, including half of all cancer patients who die at home.

“The charity also has nine hospices across the country and uses its funds to support vital research and development into cancer and palliative care. However, Marie Curie Cancer Care also needs to raise over £9,200 per hour in order to be able to continue with all of this work.

“I would therefore urge everyone who hasn’t bought a daffodil pin to consider doing so. They are available at many shops and outlets across the city; alternatively people can donate to the Appeal by phone on 0800 716 146, or online at www.mariecurie.org.uk/en-gb/donate.
