SHADOW SCHOOLS MINISTER
On returning to Parliament after the summer recess, Catherine accepted the role of Shadow Minister for Schools, returning to Labour’s frontbench as part of the Education team.
Catherine expressed her delight at being appointed, coming at such a crucial time for our education system. Commenting on her role, Catherine said:
“Education has the power to transform lives, open doors to opportunities, and shape our future. Every child deserves the best possible start in life, and that includes access to a high-quality education, regardless of their background or circumstances.
“After thirteen years of Conservative mismanagement, children are being held back with overworked and undervalued teachers and a schools estate in crisis.
“I’m looking forward to working to break down the barriers to opportunity for all children with a Labour government”.
Following her appointment, Catherine stood down from her role as Chair of the Petitions Committee commenting: “It has been a huge privilege to Chair the Petitions Committee which brings Parliament closer to the public and helps to champion causes that may not get the attention they deserve”.
