State pension rising for thousands of Newcastle’s pensioners
Pensioners in Newcastle North will be receiving a pay lift of up to £470 this year, following the Government’s confirmation of a 4.1% increase in the state pension for 2025/26.
The Government’s commitment to the triple lock – which guarantees that the state pension increases annually – has delivered this boost for pensioners and is expected to rise to £1,900 over the course of this Parliament.
This news comes as the Government continues the biggest-ever drive to ensure those eligible for Pension Credit are receiving it, resulting in an 81% increase in claims – with nearly 50,000 extra pensioners receiving support. Pension Credit is worth £4,300 a year on average, and also unlocks help with Housing Costs, Council Tax and a free TV license.

“I am so pleased that pensioners in Newcastle North will see more money in their pockets as the state pension increases this year.
“The Government has also promised to maintain financial stability through the triple lock, and it is great to see that this is already delivering for those who need it most.”
