Statement on General Election announcement

Responding to the Prime Minister’s announcement that she intends to hold a snap General Election on 8th June, Newcastle North MP Catherine McKinnell said:

‘I am pleased to confirm that I’ll be seeking the nomination to stand again as the Labour candidate for Newcastle North in the forthcoming General Election.

‘It has been a huge honour to represent the area in which I was born, grew up and am now raising my own family – and I look forward to campaigning on my record as Newcastle North’s local MP.

‘People across the constituency know just how damaging the current Government’s policies have been for our area, and our public services, and I am determined to keep working hard to represent everyone here in Newcastle North.’

  1. I’m sure you’ll personally do well. Sadly I doubt the electability of Jeremy Corbyn. The result of which, I fear, could be a very damaging one to the Labour Party. The party that I was a member of & still a supporter of, for many years. Sadly the current leadership, or lack of it, is of great personal concern.
    Good wishes Catherine.

  2. Dear Catherine, my wife and i are pleased to hear that you are standing again and hope that our votes will go towards you becoming our MP again. However i am well aware that some of your colleagues are not fully behind Jeremy Corbyn .I do believe that this is an opportunity to put aside personal differences and form a united front behind him and hope that you will defeat a very divisive and arrogant government Best Wishes Steve O’hara
