Catherine was delighted to meet with Newcastle’s Members of Youth Parliament to discuss their priorities for the upcoming year and to support their work.

The MP joined Newcastle’s Members and Deputy Members of Youth Parliament Morgan, Tessy and Alisa, who were elected in February alongside fellow Deputy Member of Youth Parliament, John.

This year the team will be focused on young people’s mental health, which was voted as the top priority by young people in Newcastle and the North East, as well as the Youth Parliament’s national priorities to tackle knife crime and secure votes at 16.

The group questioned Catherine on what inspired her into politics, her work as the Member of Parliament for Newcastle North and how we can support more young people, especially women, into politics.

Catherine commented ‘Alisa, Morgan, and Tessy are hugely impressive young people and it was a real pleasure to hear their passion for representing the views of young people in Newcastle.

‘The voices of young people are essential in the debate about how we shape our future so I was delighted to have the opportunity to hear about the work they have been doing since being elected and their priorities for the year ahead.

‘I look forward to continuing to work with our young MP team to support their work.’
