Young people will be showing a local MP the ropes as she joins children from across Newcastle at the City Council’s offices at Blackfriars Court for Children’s Takeover Day.

The event, part of a national day organised by the Children’s Commissioner, will see young people from across Newcastle touring Newcastle City Council’s offices at Blackfriars Court and meeting with officials from across the Council.

Ms McKinnell commented “I took part in last year’s Children’s Takeover Day at Newcastle City Council where young people got together to formulate the Council’s annual budget. It was a great success so I am really looking forward to joining them again this year.”

“Giving young people the opportunity to better understand how Newcastle City Council works and enabling them to question officials, including the Acting Chief Executive, is a fantastic way to get them more engaged with local democracy.”

“I hope that this year’s Takeover Day is as much of a success as last year’s where the young people came up with some truly innovative suggestions and gained a real insight into how our local authority works.”
